Abstract

In this preface, Professor Gérard Pelé outlines the development of design in France since the 1960s, highlighting the growing importance of this discipline in various sectors. The need for a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach to the teaching of design is emphasized, as is the need to adapt to technological innovations, in particular artificial intelligence. The challenges of integrating these new technologies into teaching are discussed, in particular the question of the purpose of teaching: to train designers capable of giving effective instructions to machines. The importance of designing courses that meet the needs of students and employers is also highlighted. The articles in this issue reflect the diversity of pedagogical approaches, ranging from traditional methods to competency-based approaches and design thinking. Finally, the need for critical reflection on the impact of the industrialization of design education is emphasized, taking into account the ethical and social issues involved.
